The song I sampled here – ‘The Guy Who Invented Fire”- is my favorite Shellac song from their debut album, and of course C.R.E.A.M. is arguably Wu Tang’s best song.
Even though the acapella parts (especially Insectah Deck’s) don’t match-up perfectly with Todd Trainer’s clumpy, angular rhythms, I think the dynamics still work – especially with Steve Albini’s trademark lacerating guitar riffs.
Rock and hip hop mashups seem deceptively simple, but can be a bitch to get right – I’ll be doing more as well as posting a few of the better examples in my collection in the coming weeks.
